[Okay so maybe Marty was lagging with college applications.

And maybe this trip to New York to "visit some college open houses" was really an excuse to scout out some good venues for budding musicians and cheap apartments.

And quite possibly he heard about this weird group of ghost researchers are in New York during his stay and Marty, being way too curious for his own good, wanted to see how bullshit this place was.

Could you really blame him if you were in his shoes?

Being someone who lived in California all his life, he only heard vague information from those weird ghost hunters on the East Coast, and frankly he thought it was some weird advertising campaign to visit NYC. Still, deep down he did always have a fascination with science fiction and, even if they were all con artists, it might be kinda cool to sneak into their place and see what kinda cool ghost hunting stuff they got.

However he wanted to get a good look at the place, and he figured even in the best case scenario, they wouldn't want some kid snooping around the ins and outs of their place. So, in a not-exactly-smart move, decided to sneak in. It was just to look around, after all! It's not like he's going to steal anything!

One day when he thinks the firehouse is empty, he decides to sneak into the firehouse through a window. He... might have a bit too much experience with this, but it's fine. Tip toeing through the building, he finds himself less than impressed by what he sees at first. Sure, Doc's place wasn't some high tech facility in itself, but at least it didn't normally have pizza boxes laying on the floor.

Kicking some discarded laundry away, Marty lets his guard down enough to speak aloud.]

Geez, is this a ghost hunting place or a bachelor pad.

[He's pretty sure he's alone right now, but he might be very quickly proven wrong.]

[Marty's unlucky enough to have decided on breaking in while Winston's still high off a post-gameshow heightened sense of awareness. With that frame of mind, it doesn’t take him long to discern there being an added presence in the firehouse.]

[He does his best to keep quiet while walking down the stairs so he can effectively sneak up on the unwelcome guest- see if he can figure out who they are and what they plan on accomplishing by breaking in at a time like this. Just judging from a distance... whoever it is, they still had a full head of hair on them (so Jim Venkman's right out as a potential suspect)- looks pretty young... a teenager, maybe? ...yeah, that tracks. No shortage of kids pulling dumb stunts at that age. Could be here on a bet or something.]

[Leaning his back against a wall, he shrugs his shoulders and finally decides to speak up once Marty starts giving commentary on the state of the workplace.]

...they keep telling me it's the most advanced research facility in the city, but I'm not sure that's exactly an endorsement of us so much as it's an indictment of New York. [He remarks, leaning casually against a wall.] Though hey, we must be doing something right if someone's breaking in to check out what kind of operation we're running.

[Marty very nearly falls over at the sudden voice, with the only thing stopping him being awkwardly hitting the wall to prop himself up.]

Shit-!

[Fuck that was loud, and also not very slick of him.

He whips around to see who spotted him and his eyes meet Winston.

... Ok, this guy doesn't seem mad at least. He can recover from this, he just needs a good excuse! It can't be that hard to convince this dude that he's not breaking in, right? After all he's fooled so many people in his life that this should be nothing.]

Uh... sorry is this not the Pizza Hut? I had a take out order that I needed to get.

[Ray has been alone for awhile now.

Sure he had his patron living in his cottage, and he does enjoy chatting with them, but he doesn’t really talk to many humans in a while outside of his occasional trip to the nearby village for groceries. He hated to admit it, but he kinda missed human interaction and yearned for it.

Still it was a worthy sacrifice! Not a lot of people are willing to go through a cursed forest, and those who do often don’t make it out alive. And he has his patron to help protect him so he can take full advantage of the rare plants around the forest for potions and research the weird monsters living here without worrying about getting mauled.

... as much at least, but he likes to think of himself as a capable fighter!

So he wasn’t expecting anything out of the ordinary today on a routine hike. Sure maybe he run into a hostile monster, but all he had to worry about is himself, right?]
